Hubby said "oh, look at that" so I looked. I thought then this would make a great sky watch picture.No clue what's all about, other than it's something about Swiss. I mean, I read the plate but I don't remember... we were after the dinner and some beer :)).

ReplyDeleteInteresting! The cantonal coat of arms for Bern is the same one used by the city of Bern, North Carolina. I guess it was originally settled by Bernese-Swiss immigrants.

ReplyDeleteWas it just off Leicester Square? If so it is advertising the Swiss Centre, which is an old block which now houses a cinema (I think), shops and restaurants. I did a quick Google and it appears that the centre may be demolished to make way for something more modern - I hope they don't get rid of this sign though.

ReplyDeleteVery nice shot. A zoom on the photo let me see that, according to the plaque, the vertical object was a Cantonal Tree, bearing the coat of arms of the 26 Swiss Cantons. The area in which the post stands was designated as "Swiss Court" to recognize the long-standing friendly relationship between Switzerland and the U.K.
