Sighisoara Medievala - crowds no.2

I was reading last night some Romanian blogs where people were complaining how horrible this festival was, and how they hated it. For sure there were some weird things going on at the foot of the hill, like extensive/intensive grilling and such, but I guess you cannot have a festival without food. And yes, sometimes maybe you had to wait in a restaurant, but this is the festivals again: chaos :).
Happy Wednesday!

muzica @ Sighisoara Medievala - Anton Pann

One of the best concerts was that of the "Anton Pann" group.
Old Romanian and byzantine music, of which you can listen to here on their official page, or HERE, where you can find the whole songs. Also, if you scroll down the page, under SIMILARE (on the righ side of the screen) you can listen to more songs. The name of the group is actually the name of a famous Romanian poet and composer from the beginning of the 19th century.
Enjoy!

Sighisoara Medievala - a festival chronicle

This is a festival that reached its 16th edition this year, and where I was for the first time some 10 years ago. It was fun this time too, wonderful place, good food and excellent entertainment - of various sorts. I will provide photos during the next days. I start today with some "crowd pictures", because this is what was the main ingredient :) of the festival.
Happy week ahead!

lunar landscape

I like this landscape. The salt comes into amazing shapes from the rain and sun.
Happy Sunday!
PS: if you take a look at my pictures from Thursday, 22nd of July, what you see in the background of the first photo is exactly the salt mountain!

the salt mountain - now and before

Last time we've been so close to the Slanic Prahova salt mountain was in 2006. What a difference! Back then we could actually get near, touch and taste (!) it. But now, there is a fence and a warning. This is thou not a bad thing - my oppinion is that it should be protected from the hordes of careless tourists, and also from the rain. Oh, well... we still have a long way to go, till we understand that we should protect our natural treasures. But I am afraid that the salt mountain is melted by then...This is now.
Below, the image from 2006.

mud on your face

Oh, yeah! clueless in boston was right yesterday, mentioning that women pay a lot for mud in the spa centers. In here, it's almost for free - if we don't count the entrance fee amounting barely 5 EUR...
These three ladies were so fun to watch! I guess it's mother with two daughters. And they had fun - they took some pictures also, Jackie :)!
Happy Thursday!

getting a colour

We are still in Slanic Prahova, and oh, well, getting black is one of the favourite activities. And I don't mean here getting a tan, but actually getting... black! Click on the image to enlarge it and you will see... More tomorrow!
They use the mud as cure against all sorts of things, from rheumatic issues, to skin problems, etc.
Happy Wednesday!

a salty weekend

This weekend we've been to Slanic Prahova and I actually swam for the first time in the salty lake. A weird sensation, since this high concentration of salt in the water just pushes you to the surface, so all you can do is use your hands - your feet will just float above the water :).
Some people found some other kind of fun, floating on a wooden platform,
and sometimes trying to sink it... without any results of course :).
PS: the maximum depth of this lake is 15 m!
Happy Tuesday!

Malta - tourist scenes in Blue Grotto and Valetta

Good morning! A nice rain woke us up, just in time for breakfast. The air is cool and refreshing now, still some clouds here and there.
For today, here are some people we met in the streets... No, I had no obsession with the two girls next to the Triton fountain :), they were just sitting there where I was actually trying to capture the fountain and the pidgeons :)...
Happy Tuesday!

Favourite activity in Malta: waiting for the bus...

Oh, well... and the price of the diesel goes up and up... I don't wanna know how much diesel needs one of the old Maltese buses.

Malta - buses (1)

True landmarks of Malta, the buses provide also a nice and extended route, which will take you to almost every corner of the island. Although they also have extremelly modern buses, with plasma TV screens incorporated, we preferred the old ones. They have a certain flavour...
Happy Wednesday!

Malta - Popeye Village

I am a child at heart, what about you? Do you like to play silly sometimes? I know I did this holiday :)! Popeye Village Malta - fun for all young at heart, as they say on the website.
It was indeed so much fun, although they could care a little bit more and dust the realia from time to time... :). But anyways, I totally enjoyed seeing and taking pictures with Popeye and the gang. After all, together with Chilly Willy, they were my favourite characters as a child.
Happy Thursday!
