unknown Romania (1). the master of the fire.

A cold weather, colder than anyone expected. Alone the sight of the fire brings a warm feeling deep down into my bones, and this in spite of the fact that I was so looking forward for (some) snow. With -20 Celsius degrees frozen in the outside thermometer, a cup of hot tea and a woolen blanket seem to be pure luxury.

brothers - a Camera Critters Sunday

Do you remember Pinky in a previous post? Well, Pinky has a brother, Larf. Beautiful Romanin shepperd dogs. Strong and fearless against bears and wolves, yet gentle with the people they know.
Happy Sunday and please go and visit other wonderful creatures from Misty Dawn's page by clicking on the logo above!

pink Saturday and... Pinky :)

You will ask: where is the pink in this photo?! Oh, well, funny enough, this HUGE Romanian shepperd dog is called... Pinky! He has a rather pink spot on his nose, and his paws are also pink. A sweet name for a sweet, yet so strong, dog!

The Grossglockner glacier

Like a trip to the past, or to some other wonder world. A wonderful valey of ice, surrounded by green mountains. How amazing!

Plus, since today is Monday and we have to post some flowers, I'll give you a rather weird interpretation of the theme. Since very characteristic and traditional for Austria is the Edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum), here is the Edelweisshuette, a wonderful place to stop on your way to the wonder in the picture above. A location as spectacular as the flower itself, which, unfortunatelly, is not so easy to be found from the bike :). Anyways, to my huge surprise to see the Edelweiss attached to some key chains or framed, to hang on the wall, my hubby explained that actually they grow the flower in the garden to be able to do that. Otherwise, the penalty is extremelly harsh, especially in a country like Austria, which puts a great effort into preserving its natural resources & environment.
Another tip: hehe, excellent food here at the Huette (the German word for "hut")!

A happy week ahead!

I saw RuneE posting yesterday some nice mushrooms, and I thought to show you our version too :). We spotted these in the same location, Pasul Predelus, where all the photos this week came from.
Happy Friday, weekend lalala laalalaaaaaaaaa, Fridaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
I little bit mixed up today about the Sky Watch deal :). Remember folks, if you wanna take part, sign up every week! Thanks, Tom :)! [blushing]Not only trees profile against the blue skies...

uproad

It's not easy in Romania: the infrastructure is not the best. So, sometimes, not even a 4-wheel-drive will help you. But walking is so fine!

a collection of spring flowers

In the forest, at high altitude, we could only find these signs of spring. Some of them would fit into Anna's yellow project as well :)
Have a great Wednesday!
PS: fresh new blog: HARLEY DAVIDSON, BABY!

thin lizzies

I have never seen such a thing! And for sure that I stayed by the pool on the top of the mountain the longer it took to have some pictures of these cute little guys.

Have a great Tuesday!

(not) on fire

I tried not to breath when taking this picture- which without a tripod proved to be a difficult task :)). But I couldn't breath well anyways, so... :). It is a little bit shakey, but I liked the feeling... In the picture is the same area I showed you yesterday.
Have a great Tuesday!

Poiana Brasov

First of all, thank you for all good words! Leena was right: if they count for medicine than I am starting to feel better! Of course, still blowing nose, caughing & Co, but way better. For the weekend, since we had some stuff to celebrate, I took my better half and the flu along to Poiana Brasov. Mr. S. spent the day in the gym, I in the sauna (in a marvelous minty aroma). I tried to swim, but since I couldn't breath, that was not possible. The water seemed terribly cold, too. So after sauna, I just slept next to the pool.

Here is how the snow outside (yeah, I know, I am tired of white too...) looked from the window of our hotel.

winter

The tea I mentioned yesterday is recommended for its high content in vitamin C. Which vitamin C is higly recommended in winter. Winter as shown below... Pictures taken on the way to Sinaia and in Sinaia, at Cota 1400.
Ooookaaaay... So that actually looks like a lot of snow...
Some people got stuck in the snow, so the jandarms had to come and dig them out. I took this from the car - sorry for the dirty windshield... offroad driving, you know :)...

As a conclusion, as fellow blogger Zsolt mentioned on his blog, we are sooooo amazed at this snow this year, due to the fact that last winter we had so little. The first real snow for Christmas was ... in January (for my Serbian Christmas), as you can see here.

the red mountain

Muntele Rosu means "the red mountain": due to trees in autumn and some reddish grass present everywhere. beautiful. here is a picture from a distance, a little bit fuzzy due to mist and sun reflections.
